[ You’re … well, it sure looks like you’re standing on the teleport deck of a large, space-faring vessel. The teleporter itself—a large, square-ish platform humming with gentle blue energy—is behind you; it’s one of fifty, all arranged in neat rows of ten. ]
Welcome, candidate. [ The voice of a young woman, smooth, pleasant, and professional, issues from a PA system. Looking around, it’s not at all obvious where the speakers are—they could be anywhere. They’re probably everywhere. ] Welcome to this Galactic Class HV-1066, designation: Anesidora. You have been specially selected to assist with the calibration of our secondary HoloSim array, which you may find through the door to your left.
[ Aforementioned door is typically futuristic, with a virtual keypad—“Lock Disengaged”, apparently; how convenient!—and a helpful sign painted onto the smooth metal floor: Sim-Deck #2. ]
[ Agent Washington, having a bad idea? Stop the presses. ]
[ The teleport deck is probably a familiar sight to Puma by now. It's empty, as usual, save for Iota … and she just looks at him, waiting for him to make the first move. Which is maybe a little less familiar. ]
[ As for what he's coming into … it's the fancy-ass teleport deck of Iota's fancy-ass starship. It's very fancy. ]
Hello, Epsilon. [ Here's Iota! … and … Iota? A small hologram version is sitting atop her head, and wow, big Iota looks out of it; lights on, nobody home. The hologram flickers once before disappearing, and the human(?!) form suddenly focuses, smiling at him. ]
[ HI PEARL welcome to Iota's realm. She finds herself standing in the fancy-ass teleportation deck, on board Iota's fancy-ass starship. It's all very fancy and highly advanced, with shiny metal and glass, etc. ]
Hello, Pearl. [ The AI herself is standing in the doorway. ] I do not know if that is physically possible?
Pearl, Tama, Armin, Natalie [ There's a short note in front of your doors: "Hey! Iota-san got me again. I should be back in a couple of days. - Aoko ♥" ]
Puma [ Puma also gets a note! "Hey, Puma-nii. Sorry I didn't come back last night; Kaito's got no sense of direction, and then we had to fight off a pack of wolves. Why does this always happen when we go on dates???
Anyway, we're both fine. Kaito should be at Tiamat if you wanna check. Iota-san borrowed me to help beta test some new stuff for her (you'd like the game I'm playing right now!) and I should be home in a few days. - Aoko ♥" ]
Kaito [ Kaito gets a small, wrapped gift box. There's an equally small spring-loaded fish inside. ENJOY. ]
[ It takes long enough that Church might feel like he's being ignored. But finally, after a couple of minutes, he blinks and finds himself standing in what looks to be a teleportation deck. It's fancy as hell. Very spaceshippy. ]
You watch hours … upon hours … upon hours of footage.
There isn't much going on in most of it. The Anesidora is a big ship, and aside from North, Theta, and Epsilon—all of whom he can see safely tucked away in the secondary Holo-Sim deck—Iota is the only one there. After the conclusion of the amnesia game, she'd wandered over to the tertiary Holo-Sim, building and breaking down mini-game after mini-game after mini-game after mini-game after mini-game after mini-game after mini-game after gigantic pile of kittens that crawl all over her and it's adorable.
Puma's familiar with how time works for an AI, versus a human. A second is so much time when you run as fast as she does.
She'd been happy. Smiling frequently, until the boredom truly set back in. Then she'd gone to play with Audrey II and Trif in simulation F2048, also known as Flappy Bird 2048. The flowers talk a whole bunch of shit and Iota sits with them, eyes closed … (A small pop-up in the corner of Puma's screen shows readouts of all of the maintenance protocols and miscellaneous programming she'd been doing to fill the time. There's tons of stuff. Most of it isn't even necessary; she's obviously just doing it because she needs, desperately, to be occupied with something.)
Eventually, Iota wanders away. From the daffodils, from the kittens, from the ship itself … there's no mistaking it: she's gone out.
And when she returns, she's frowning. Running her fingers across terminals on the walls like she's lost something, like she's missing something and she's just barely on the cusp of finding it. She all but jogs to one of the control rooms, sits the body down and expands the whole of herself into the ship's network. (The read-outs change, then. It's mostly incomprehensible even to him, but they become more, like something half asleep has woken up.) Hours of that until she slips back into the woman's body again, and from there she almost seems feverish with excitement and determination. She sets to work on coaxing together broken, burnt out pieces of artificial intelligence, forming fragments out of fragments. Sets to work on setting up the implantation experiments …
[ Sometime around mid-morning, both Kaito and Puma receive a text on their phones. Weird, huh? Nobody's had time to quest to fix the connection between them. ]
[ And the sender ... ]
[ It's Iota. ]
I require some good reasons as to why I should not kill them. Please provide ASAP.
[he just goes back to normal in time for the game, apologizes to Aoko, promises to take her out on a date to put the fireworks he had quested for to good use, and she gets Echonapped??
