[ Meanwhile, up on the screen ...! The pair of intrepid explorers are in what appears to be a huge mess hall, bickering and bantering away. UNTIL, WITH A LOUD CRASH ------
A giant purple tentacle bursts out of the floor by the entrance, cutting off their escape! Good thing Aoko brought a grappling gun - she and Kaito grab each other, and up they go, into the rafters. ]
[ It's Kaito's turn to be cool now! Aoko brought the grappling gun, but she doesn't know how to get from it onto the beam itself … Kaito helps her up—or starts to! A lashing tentacle interrupts, intent on smacking her out of the air, only to be sent reeling back by a prompt, pointed shot from Kaito's laser gun.
Aoko's left dangling for a moment, as four more tentacles come bursting out of the ground. He holds them off, firing with precision! But he doesn't abandon her—he splits his attention, easily helping her up without losing focus on what he's doing. He keeps his hand on her even when she's safely on the rafter next to him. ]
[ Nobody had been kidding when they said he was a damn good shot. ]
[ AOKO CLEARLY ISN'T HAPPY UP THERE. Not happy at all. But as obviously uncomfortable as she is, it doesn't seem to be stopping her from trying to help … she pulls out some vials of mysterious blue liquid, asking him if he can pinpoint the main body of the tentacle creature. His only response is, "Not yet, but I have an idea …!"
… Which seems to be enough to get her on exactly the same wavelength. ]
[ The, use the faint light emitted by his LASER BULLETS to target their foe, wavelength. ]
[ Which, y'know, requires them to be VERY MUCH IN SYNC, with even a split-second of poor timing on either of their parts being enough to ruin the plan entirely. Kaito slaps another mag of ammo into his gun—just in time to shoot away a tentacle that had been lashing towards them. ……………………………. Sorry for the possible heart attack there, Puma, because that laser was a bare INCH away from Aoko's face.
Somehow she manages not to flinch. Somehow they do manage to act in perfect sync. "Ready!" says Kaito, and fires down into the gaping pit that used to be the floor, without waiting for Aoko's response. For the briefest of moments, the laser fire illuminates this handsome devil … and it's enough. Aoko tosses her vials, and the ENTIRE THING EXPLODES. ]

[ CAN YOU FEEL THEM ]
Has the game traumatized you?

[ Sorry, she's staring. ]
[ First at you, and then at the screen. ]
[ She seems ... thoughtful? ]

Better for a virtual reality that it doesn't....seem real. Gives a disconnect and doesn't go against what's in our heads.

You would be very upset with me if the hurt had been real.

Even if the exercise had not been pointlessly cruel?

Are you suggesting that if, under any circumstances, I hurt her in particular, you will never forgive me?

Noted.

I had wondered if they would manage the timing successfully.

[ Surely this could not possibly go wrong. ]
I will have to inquire further into their skill-sets.
